MICHAEL KRANISKI
After graduating from the Cleveland Institute of Art, one the nation’s leading art and design institutes, Michael Kraniski pursued a successful design career, winning numerous awards in both the U.S., and Europe. He has now returned to his original passion – the fine arts.
Michael’s process for doing abstract paintings is experimental; he pokes around a bit without a preconceived notion of what the outcome will be. It is always a surprise to him. As Michael critiques his work, he tries to take the role of the observer, ensuring that the person viewing his work will experience the outcome in the same way he did during the creative process.
Although much of Kraniski’s work is abstract, his creative range is wide. Michael is also known for his “Skyscape” paintings, and for his use of a strong color palette. He feels that the most interesting element in a landscape painting is the sky. He says, “Landscapes are static, and of little interest until the sky acts upon them. The sky sets the mood. It controls the color and light of the landscape, and provides a sense of movement to the painting. These paintings are representational, and in all the paintings the atmosphere or mood is most important.”
